Day 1 – 7 From Nairobi we cross the Great Rift Valley and enter the Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya’s premier wildlife park. Our camp gives us perfect access to the park for afternoon and morning game drives in search of the ‘Big Five’ and other wildlife. We may also visit a Maasai village and talk to these traditional people who live in the area around the reserve. From the ‘Mara’, we briefly head back to Nairobi before crossing into Tanzania to Arusha. Another opportunity to meet the local Maasai people but don’t forget to visit the Meserani Snake enclosure – don’t worry it’s quite safe!. We transfer to 4x4 vehicles for a 3-day excursion to the Serengeti National Park, Olduvai Gorge and the Ngorongoro Crater. From the broad flat plains of the Serengeti to the staggeringly beautiful views over the Ngorongoro Crater, enjoy East Africa’s scenery and wildlife as you realise you have only been on tour for a week!
Day 8 – 14 From Arusha we drive in the shadow of Mt. Kilimanjaro, across vast tracts of savannah to the port city of Dar es Salaam. Almost always hot and humid we escape the city on the regular ferry to Zanzibar to experience three days of leisure and tropical delight. Explore Stone Town’s alleyways, architecture and markets but leave time to visit the beaches, white sands, leaning palms and tropically warm waters for some ‘serious’ relaxation. Returning to the African mainland, we leave the coast and drive via Mikumi National Park into Malawi.
NB As we leave the truck on the mainland, basic tourist class accommodation on Zanzibar is included in the Local Payment but for the sake of flexibility meals are left for your own account. Typically we spend one night in Stone Town and the next two nights in the north of the island at one of the beaches. Your tour leader will be available to assist if you experience any problems but there are no set activities - the time is entirely at leisure

Day 15 – 21 This is one of the friendliest countries on tour and home to Africa’s third-largest lake. With over 600 species of fish (most of them endemic) the lake provides living for many of the Malawi people. We make camp beside one of the beaches - try diving, snorkelling, sailing or horseback riding or take a guided village walk to see how the locals live. Leaving Malawi we cross into Zambia and make our way to Lusaka, the capital.
Day 22 – 24 Livingstone, close to Victoria Falls, is our base for the next few days. In addition to the awesome beauty of Victoria Falls the area is also Africa’s ‘adventure’ capital - try white water rafting, gorge-swinging, canoeing or even bungy jumping! Alternatively, enjoy elephant back and walking safaris, or else - simply relax at our riverside campsite. We view the Victoria Falls from ‘Mosi-Oa-Tunya’ (‘Smoke That Thunders’) National Park and have time at leisure.
Day 25 – 31 From Livingstone we cross into Botswana to the town of Kasane and Chobe National Park. Take the Chobe River ‘Fish Eagle’ cruise to view the peace and beauty of the area. We move south, via Nata and Francistown, to South Africa and the Kruger National Park. Take your final opportunity for game viewing in one of Africa’s major game parks - Kruger is South Africa’s largest and best-known reserve. Finally, we travel through scenic Mpumalanga province to Johannesburg, where the tour ends.
