Day 1 – 7 We begin our safari with a township tour in cosmopolitan Cape Town. We then travel north to camp beside the beautiful Orange (Gariep) River. In Namibia we enjoy awesome views over the dramatic Fish River Canyon and climb the world’s highest dunes in the Namib Naukluft Park. We relax for a few days and enjoy adventure activities on offer in the coastal town of Swakopmund – try skydiving, quad-biking or just soak up the atmosphere in one of Swakopmund’s many fine cafes.
Day 8 – 12 We leave the coastal town of swakopmund to Damaraland and camp amongst the eerie rock formations at Spitzkoppe then onto the Cheetah Park before arriving in Etosha National Park to glimpse Namibia’s wildlife drinking at its year-round waterholes. Heading into Botswana we then take a cultural bushman walk to learn about life in the Kalahari.
Day 13 - 15 We embark on an exciting wilderness experience, camping amongst the tranquil islands and watery channels of the Okavango Delta. By day we game view on foot and from our relaxing mokoro canoes. Camping in Africa is a unique experience and at night, with nothing but the nocturnal sounds of the African bush; it offers a wonderful opportunity to be at one with nature.
Day 16 – 22 Continuing to Chobe National Park, we have the opportunity to game drive amidst beautiful scenery and relax on a sunset River Cruise. We hope to see the African fish eagle and perhaps also elephant, hippo and buffalo coming to the river to drink. From Chobe we cross into Zambia and arrive at our camp on the banks of the Zambezi, near Livingstone. We visit Victoria Falls and take time out to enjoy this, Africa’s ‘Adventure Capital’. Optional activities here include white water rafting, bungy jumping, scenic flights and elephant back safaris
Day 23 – 34 From Livingstone we drive north, pausing at the Kafue River for a cruise and visit to a local village. Continuing via Lusaka and Lilongwe we reach Lake Malawi for a day or two on the beach. There’s also the opportunity to meet the Malawi people, some of the friendliest in Africa, on a village walk. Crossing the border into Tanzania we hit the coast, passing by the Mikumi National Park to the bustling capital Dar es Salaam. We cross by ferry to exotic Zanzibar, explore the intriguing alleyways of old Stone Town and relax on the northern beaches, enjoying the Indian Ocean at its best.
Note As we leave the truck on the mainland, basic tourist class accommodation on Zanzibar is included in the Local Payment but for the sake of flexibility meals are left for your own account. Typically we spend one night in Stone Town and the next two nights in the north of the island at one of the beaches. Your tour leader will be available to assist if you experience any problems but there are no set activities - the time is entirely at leisure
Day 35 – 41 Returning to ‘Dar’ we travel north to Tanzania’s safari capital, Arusha. On the way, weather permitting glimpse the snowy peak of magnificent Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak. In Arusha, shop for curios, visit a snake park, and meet the people of a Masai village. We switch to 4x4s to explore the Serengeti National Park, Olduvai Gorge and Ngorongoro Crater. The Serengeti and Ngorongoro are two of the best game reserves in Africa and promise spectacular scenery, remote camping and plenty of exciting wildlife encounters. We return to Arusha before crossing into Kenya and finishing our journey in Nairobi, where our tour ends.
