ITINERARY

Day 1 Jambiani
Transfer from airport or harbor to Jambiani. Briefing with guide and test of bicycles.
Meet a piece of Africa in the authentic village Jambiani where you will see goats, ducks and lots of cheerful kids running around. According to us the best beach on the East coast with a long white sandbank allowing for amazing swims at high tide and explorative walks at low tide where the villagers go out to grow the seaweed and pick mussels for dinner.
Dinner and overnight at Red Monkey Lodge with a laid back barefoot atmosphere. Maybe the Red Colobus Monkeys pays a visit for breakfast.

Meals: Dinner
Accommodation: the Red Colobus Monkeys

Day 2 Kizimkazi
Early morning departure to bike to the Southern point, Kizimkazi (22 km) for Dolphin spotting. We pass the village Makunduchi with its red clay huts and banana trees showing you a bit of Africa.
We can stop and try the exotic fruits being sold along the way. Passing the coral rock village Kizimkazi you will have a good view of how the people live their life.
In Kizimkazi we take a boat looking for dolphins that comes here for resting and breeding. The likely hood of seeing them is 95 %, however being wild animals there is no guarantee.
After the dolphin swim we eat a local lunch and then some rest and enjoy by the quiet and beautiful beach of Kizimkazi. When the tide is coming in fishermen is coming in with their catch and watch the fish auction. And if you are lucky you can watch the dolphins from a distance.
We sleep at Karamba Resort, chosen for its sea view rooms, the evening atmosphere at sunset and the possibility to see more of the dolphins. Also because, Kizimkazi is a sweet little village.

Accommodation: Karamba Resort

Day 3 Stone Town
Today is a true bicycle day (56 km)! A long, but flat and comfortable, stretch to Stone Town will take you through villages and busy areas showing you the real life on Zanzibar. Together with your guide you will choose which roads to take: village roads, short cuts, main road, off road. We will stop along the way and eat a simple local lunch. Along the way we will find fruits and other things to try. After a day full of experiences, you will be rewarded with an amazing dinner experience.
Stone Town is a UNESCO world heritage site and a humming mysterious place where people live and enjoy their life on display in the narrow alleys. Here Africa meets Oman and you can see, feel and smell the mix of different cultures and heritages as the citizens cook their food on the street, children are playing and the men plays bao in the corner debating what the next move should be.

18.00 Roof top dinner at Emerson on Hurumzi. Best roof top in town where you will enjoy 270 degrees sea view accompanied by the call for prayers and the tingling sound from the Shiva temple below. Drinks excluded (sunset and drinks around 18, dinner starts 19).
Overnight at Kholle House - a personal boutique hotel filled with antiquities following the Spice Route to Zanzibar. A feeling of home and lots of beautiful balconies and terraces to enjoy.

Day 6 Nungwi
Early morning ride to northern point, Nungwi via Mkokotoni if you want, a small genuine fishing village where locals take the boat to Tumbatu and where you will find fruit and fish market. (53km). Nungwi is the most exploited place on the island but still very cute and Zanzibari. You have the village to explore just behind and the sea here is amazing and with no tide to talk about you can swim from the shore 24/7. Today you have a lunch box since it is hard to find good food along this stretch.
Afternoon, dinner and overnight in Nungwi, Flame Tree Cottages. Flame Tree Cottages is a peaceful place with small villas. We love that they serve breakfast on your private veranda and that the beach- and nightlife is merely a 200 m away.

About Our Reviews

Our reviews are Fully Qualified

We do not take reviews from unqualified sources

Since 1996 we have been working with the best tour operators in Africa. Our unique relationship with those operators ensures only people who have participated in a trip after making an enquiry for it at AfricaGuide.com can leave a review.

The email we send you when you make an enquiry has full instructions for registering a booking and leaving a review - both are free services.

Feel free to read through the reviews for any trip you like the look of.

Trips with no reviews are usually new to AfricaGuide.com but are normally operated by a tour operator who is established here and has gained operator reviews for you to read.

Thanks for visiting, happy travels and don't forget to send us your reviews...

About our trip providers and reviews

Our Trip Providers

We carry out extensive company checks on all our providers, over 20 years we have built strong personal relationships with each of them, which assures you of an unparalleled service, great value and the trip of a lifetime.
We have participated in many of the trips found here (we have a nice job) and make our own independent assessments of the services provided, ensuring they meet with our own high standards.

All the trips are supplied by the end provider of that trip.
You may find the same or similar trips elsewhere, usually these are offered by an agent.
We prefer to give you direct access to the trip provider for reasons outlined below:

  1. Best price.
The price you see here is the direct trip price set by the provider, the same price as purchasing directly with them (which is how it works), there are no added commissions.
This means you are not paying an agents commission and the provider is receiving their fully budgeted trip cost.
(agents can demand discounts from providers as well as adding commissions to the providers trip price)
  2. Easy customisation.
By booking directly with the end provider, making changes is quick and easy.
  3. Fast problem solving.
On the rare occasion that an issue may arise before or during your trip, by dealing directly with the end provider, problem solving is quick and efficient.
  4. Helping Africa help itself.
The most straightforward way to assist the economic opportunities and conditions for local people across Africa, is by direct financial interaction with people in Africa. In a nutshell "Tourism".
This kind of direct tourism gives opportunity to local people.

We limit the number of providers we work with in order to strike a balance between a good choice of trips and to be sure we can honestly recommend the service and validity of each provider.
Because the majority of trips can be customised by the providers, the choice of trip configurations is in the tens of thousands.

Our Reviews

We have 3,000+ reviews for our trips and providers.
All our reviews are fully qualified, we do not take unqualified reviews.
We show all reviews, the good and the critical (very few). Our providers have the ability to respond to reviews and those responses are shown alongside the review.
Acquiring genuine reviews is actually very hard, for our genuine travellers we make this an easy process but many people although satisfied with the service they received do not leave a review.

Many reviews on the internet can be left by an open process with little or no checks.
At best unqualified reviews are worthless, at worst they are misleading. We never take unqualified reviews.

We hope you find a trip to your liking and we are here to assist.

Wishing you happy travels...
