Malawi and Zambia Safari. Exploring Malawi's unique and attractive areas as well as spending time relaxing on the shores of the lake and wildlife viewing in South Luangwa National Park, one of Africa's best National parks.

Day 1 - Mafumu Lodge
Arrive Lilongwe. Transfer from Airport to Lodge. Your guide will meet everyone at the Lodge for introductions and a tour briefing at 18H00, after the briefing dinner will be served. We will arrange airport transfers on this day as and when needed. Overnight Lodge on Bed and Breakfast basis. Dinner this evening at your own cost.

Day 2 - Dzalanyama Forest Lodge
After Breakfast, depart for Dzalanyama Forest. We drive South East from Lilongwe to Dzalanyama mountain range – Its about a 2 hr drive – Arrive at the Forest Lodge in time for Lunch. After Lunch a walk up Mtsongololo Mountain. The track takes us through the endemic forests where there is a profusion of miombo birdlife. Return back to the lodge as it gets dark. Overnight Forest House on all meals inclusive basis.

Day3 - Dzalanyama Forest Lodge
Today is a project day for those that wish to participate - this is not compulsory ! - The project is geared towards what the school requires. Dzalanyama school has been the recipient of our charitable interests since they won the concession to operate the lodge in the area some 13 years ago. Included in your tour fare, is a financial donation to the school to pay for this project work or materials to assist with whatever they need, be it building work, painting, repairs, replacement of school materials etc. Our office will co-ordinate this aspect and your guide will indicate what needs to be done and achieved in the day. Return to the Lodge after project work. For those not wishing to participate in the project work, your guide will suggest drives or walks in the area that offers excellent photo's and the possibility to spot some elusive wild animals. Lunch is served and everyone meets again at the Lodge in the evening for sundowners followed by dinner. Overnight Forestry house on all meals included basis.

Day 4 - Thornicroft Camp
Depart Dzalanyama and travel via Lilongwe then on to Mchinji, where we complete immigration formalities and continue into Zambia. From the border it is a short drive to Chipata - Zambia's capital of the Eastern Province, then drive through to Luangwa Valley - Mfuwe sector. A picnic lunch is enjoyed en route and ETA at the Camp is mid afternoon. Here we stay at the Thornicroft Tented Camp. Thornicroft camp is a group of 8 X 3m X 3m X 1.8m high Canvass dome tents, erected on a plinth facing a locally thatched communal dining area and fire pit. Each Tent has 2 X single beds in and an electrical bulb and a small table between the beds. Bedding is supplied but guests need to bring their own towels. Communal ablution facilities are situated just behind the tents. The camp overlooks a lagoon, not the Luangwa river. Meals are provided from the main lodes restaurant and camp guests are allowed to use the swimming pool. Upgrade to the Lodges chalets is possible on site if there is availability. Overnight Tented Camp inclusive all meals. Upgrade to Lodge is possible on site subject to availability.

Day 5 - Thornicroft Camp
After an early morning wake up call, we have a light breakfast of tea / coffee, cereal and toast with preserves, then depart for the game drive. Our aim is to be on our first game drive by 6.15 am. Game drives are done in the camps open safari vehicles, to optimize your pleasure and experience. Drinks and snacks are taken along for your enjoyment whilst in the park. Depending on game sightings, we return to the Camp at 11 for a scrumptious "brunch". An afternoon rest then we again head out for our afternoon drive at around 1600 - returning to the camp at 20.00. Overnight Tented Camp inclusive all meals.

Day 6 - Thornicroft Camp

Day 8 - Dedza Pottery Lodge
Transfer from Luangwa to Lilongwe with a picnic lunch en route. After a brief stop in Lilongwe to possibly collect further passengers, continue for a further 2 hrs to arrive in Dedza mid afternoon with time to look around the bushman paintings, before getting to the pottery lodge. Overnight Dedza Pottery chalets on Dinner, Bed and Breakfast basis.

Day 9 - Likhubula CCAP Chalets
Morning tour of the pottery workshop, then depart for Mulanje via Blantyre. Our journey from Blantyre takes us past the scenic Thyolo Tea plantations, then onto the plains. Likhubula CCAP chalets are perfectly situated to explore the mountain. Each chalet has 2 rooms with a bathroom , kitchenette and lounge. Meals will be prepared onsite by your guide and staff.

Day 10 - Likhubula CCAP Chalets
After breakfast we explore the mountain. Your guide will discuss the various hikes available, these are from 1.5 hrs to a 6 hr hike, returning to the cottages for your overnight. Non hikers will have the option to visit Mulanje town and perhaps a tea estate . Overnight Chalets with all meals included.

Day 11 - Kayaking Safari
Drive to Cape Maclear-Lake Malawi. En route we pass Zomba and the historical Mangochi town to follow the lakeshore northwards. Arrival at Cape Maclear is just after lunch and we arrive at Kayak base camp. Here we are familiarized with the kayaks and equipment and then set off for the island. The protected waters of the National Park bring sea kayaking within reach of anyone, irrespective of fitness or experience. The two-person kayak is stable and allows easy paddling. For those not wishing to paddle, it is possible to go by powerboat to the island the boat leaves the mainland at 3. Remainder of the day explore the island and surroundings by kayak and swimming / snorkeling. Overnight Island Tented Camp inclusive all meals.

Day 12 - Chembe Eagles Nest
After a very lazy start to the day with breakfast and a swim we paddle or transfer by boat back to the mainland. Arrival on the mainland is before lunch. Transfer just down the beach to the lodge on the lakeshore. The remainder of day is spent either exploring Cape Maclear village, or relaxing on the beach. Overnight Lodge on dinner, bed and breakfast basis.

Day 15 - Bua River Lodge
Its an early departure from the lake to then drive Northwards to Nkhotakhota reserve. Bua River Lodge offers fine, en-suite, tented accommodation. Small and owner-managed, with staff drawn entirely from local communities, they assure a relaxing and friendly stay. Arrive after lunch and the afternoon a walk along the Bua river is offered. Meals are served in the unique timber and thatch multi-level lodge, right on the bank of the Bua River, with wonderful views downstream and across to the wilderness on the opposite bank. Accommodation is provided in six purpose-made, luxury safari tents, erected on varnished wooden floors and shaded by thatched roofs. Large mosquito-netted windows, ventilation flaps and screen doors, ensure that even on the hottest day the tents stay cool inside. Each is located to ensure seclusion and to engender a feeling of solitude with a viewing deck to the front, that overlooks the beautiful Bua River. In the afternoon, we go on a walk along this stunning river - hopefully spotting elephants that come down to drink in the late afternoon. Overnight river side Tented camp on dinner, bed and breakfast basis.

Day 16 - Makuzi Beach Lodge
Morning game walk for those that wish then return for a later breakfast [Brunch] after which we depart to Chintheche. Makuzi Beach Lodge, is located along the northern shores of Lake Malawi. Delightfully sited in its own private bay, the lodge is ideal for that perfect “Retreat to Paradise”. Makuzi Beach has stylish en suite thatched chalets - all nestled in manicured gardens overlooking the lake’s warm, clear waters. The lodge is perfectly positioned to offer guests spectacular views of the lake while enjoying a quiet drink at the bar. The restaurant has an excellent reputation for outstanding cuisine and guests are encouraged to enjoy the full African experience while dining under the stars. There’s a wide variety of activities: swimming, snorkeling, fishing, kayaking or just wallowing in the lake. Makuzi Beach is involved in community projects, one of which is the village tour and includes a visit to the historical missionary site, museum and a taste of the local cuisine. Horse riding and scuba diving can be arranged off-site. Bird watching opportunities are some of the best along the lake. Overnight lodge on Dinner, bed and breakfast basis.

Day 17 - Chelinda Camp - Nyika Plateau
After an early morning departure, we drive through Mzuzu and continue up to Nyika Plateau. Picnic lunch en route and arrival in Nyika is mid afternoon. Chelinda Camp, facing a clear water dam, consists of six twin bedded en suite rooms. There’s a restaurant and bar overlooking the dam. Activities include game drives, walking, mountain biking, birding and fly fishing for trout. Overnight rooms inclusive all meals.

Day 20 - Luwawa Forest Lodge
From Nyika continue through Mzuzu again and onto the Viphya Plateau. Luwawa Forest Lodge is an international guesthouse and outdoor adventure centre in the unspoilt wilderness of the Viphya Plateau. At 1600m, the area is malaria-free. The lodge overlooks a large, well-stocked lake. Much of the Lodge’s electricity is from solar energy and the water supply from a mountain stream. Fresh vegetables prepared in the kitchen are from the lodge’s permaculture garden. The lodge is dedicated to being in tune with its natural surroundings. The latest addition to the facilities is a Sauna & bush shower. Luwawa has prolific birdlife and antelope can be seen close to the lodge. Further afield are monkeys, baboons, leopards and hyenas. Numerous activities are offered such as squash, canoeing, abseiling, orienteering. Luwawa is ideal for family and individual holidays. The lodge is committed to responsible tourism through its many local community assistance projects in which guests can be directly involved. Winner of the Malawi Government’s Tourism Award 2008 for “Community Participation and Sustainable Tourism Practices”. Overnight Lodge on dinner bed and breakfast basis.

Day 21 - Luwawa Forest Lodge
The day is spent exploring the area - on foot, bike, canoe, abseiling, mountain biking, sailing or fishing. The day can be as leisurely or active as you wish. Overnight Lodge inclusive all meals.

Day 22
Today we depart after breakfast to arrive in Lilongwe in time for your return flight or onward journey. A 3 hr drive from Luwawa to the airport, check in is 2 hrs before your international flight.
