Day 1 – Abidjan
Arrive in Abidjan and transfer to your hotel. Overnight Ibis Hotel or similar.
Day 2-3 – Sassandra
Drive to Sassandra, seat of an ancient royal kingdom and in the territory of the Fanti people, who earn their living from fishing. Sassandra is an old colonial post that has a strong flavour of a better past. We explore the old French colonial quarter, the fishing port and the surrounding area. Overnight Hotel Le Pollet or similar. (B)
Day 4 – Yamoussoukro
Drive to Yamoussokro, once just a village but now Cote d’Ivoire’s bizarre administrative capital. The city is dominated by the gigantic Basilica of Our Lady of Peace, reputedly the largest Christian place of worship on earth. We spend time exploring this vast complex, and the Grand Mosque before returning to our hotel. Overnight Hotel Aho or similar. (B)
Day 5 – Korhogo
Drive north to Korhogo, the northern capital of the Senoufou people, stopping at villages and markets along the way. Overnight Hotel Mont Korhogo or similar. (B)
Day 6 – Senoufou Villages
A day to explore the culture of the Senoufou. Renowned for their craftsmanship, the Senoufou are also seen as rather a mysterious people, traditionally believing in a collection of different gods and following animist principles. We take time to visit different villages in the surrounding area and learn about their customs. Overnight Hotel Mont Korhogo or similar. (B)
Day 7 – Kong - Comoe National Park
Drive east to Comoe. On the way we stop at the small town of Kong, home to an impressive 17th century mosque built in the traditional adobe style. Stop in villages and markets along the way, finally reaching Comoe National Park in the late afternoon, Ivory Coast’s largest protected area. Overnight Kafolo Safari Lodge or similar. (B)
Day 8 – Comoe National Park
Spend today exploring Comoe National Park. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the park suffered during the long civil war and so wildlife populations are not as plentiful as they once were, but we hope to see some of the species that still reside here including hippo, crocodile and different types of antelope. The park also contains rare examples of rainforest, normally found much further south, and is rich in birdlife. Overnight Kafolo Safari Lodge or similar. (B)
Day 9 – Lobi and Fulani Villages - Bouake
On the edges of the park live some of Ivory Coast’s most traditional ethnic groups, the Lobi and the Fulani, and we spend today visiting some of their villages and learning about their lifestyles. From here we continue to the city of Bouake. Overnight Hotel Mon Afrik or similar. (B)
Day 10 – Aniausse - Abengourou
Leave the north and head east to Abengourou. Despite the strong influence of Christianity and the new economy imposed by the colonial masters in the form of cocoa plantations, the region of Abengourou keeps the essence of the Ivorian animist soul. We stop in the village of Aniausse, known for its school for ‘feticheurs’ – where the ‘priests’ of traditional belief systems learn their trade. We will discover aspects of these ancient customs trying to survive in the confusing times of the modern world. We then continue to Abengourou, a large centre of agriculture in the region. Overnight Hotel Royaume or similar. (B)
Day 11 – Grand Bassam
Visit the chief’s palace, with its interesting museum, then drive to the city of Grand Bassam with its old colonial buildings and atmosphere of yesteryear, to explore and learn about the history of the country. Overnight Hotel Tereso or similar. (B)

Included in price:
Accommodation: As listed in the dossier. The nature of the destinations that we operate may sometimes mean that we need to change hotels, but we’ll always endeavour to keep the same standards. Please be aware that as we operate in many countries where tourism is in its infancy, hotel standards may not be the same as you’re used to elsewhere.
Guides: In most cases you will be accompanied by one guide from start to finish. However there may be occasions when this is not practical, for example if your trip covers a number of different countries. In these cases it often makes more sense to include different guides for each place, to take advantage of their specific knowledge of the destination.
Meals: As listed within the itinerary / dossier (B-Breakfast, L-Lunch, D-Dinner).
Entrance fees: Entrance fees are listed for those sites that we mention within the itinerary. If there are any other sites that you’d like to see, these would be at your own expense.
