Day 1 – 7
From Nairobi we cross the Great Rift Valley and enter the Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya’s premier wildlife park. Our camp gives us perfect access to the park for afternoon and morning game drives in search of the ‘Big Five’ and other wildlife. We may also visit a Maasai village and talk to these traditional people who live in the area around the reserve. From the ‘Mara’, we briefly head back to Nairobi before crossing into Tanzania to Arusha. Another opportunity to meet the local Maasai people but don’t forget to visit the Meserani Snake enclosure – don’t worry it’s quite safe!. We transfer to 4x4 vehicles for a 3-day excursion to the Serengeti National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater. From the broad flat plains of the Serengeti to the staggeringly beautiful views over the Ngorongoro Crater, enjoy East Africa’s scenery and wildlife as you realise you have only been on tour for a week!

Day 8 – 14
From Arusha we drive in the shadow of Mt. Kilimanjaro, across vast tracts of savannah to the port city of Dar es Salaam. Almost always hot and humid we escape the city on the regular ferry to Zanzibar to experience three days of leisure and tropical delight. Explore Stone Town’s alleyways, architecture and markets but leave time to visit the beaches, white sands, leaning palms and tropically warm waters for some ‘serious’ relaxation. Returning to the African mainland, we leave the coast and drive via Mikumi National Park into Malawi.

NB As we leave the truck on the mainland, basic tourist class accommodation on Zanzibar is included in the Local Payment but for the sake of flexibility meals are left for your own account. Typically we spend one night in Stone Town and the next two nights in the north of the island at one of the beaches. Your tour leader will be available to assist if you experience any problems but there are no set activities - the time is entirely at leisure

Day 15 – 21
This is one of the friendliest countries on tour and home to Africa’s third-largest lake. With over 600 species of fish (most of them endemic) the lake provides living for many of the Malawi people. We make camp beside one of the beaches - try diving, snorkelling, sailing or horseback riding or take a guided village walk to see how the locals live. Leaving Malawi we cross into Zambia and make our way to Lusaka, the capital.

Day 22 – 25
Livingstone, close to Victoria Falls, is our base for the next few days. In addition to the awesome beauty of Victoria Falls the area is also Africa’s ‘adventure’ capital - try white water rafting, gorge-swinging, canoeing or even bungy jumping! Alternatively, walking safaris, or else - simply relax at our riverside campsite. We view the Victoria Falls from ‘Mosi-Oa-Tunya’ (‘Smoke That Thunders’) National Park and have time at leisure.

Day 26 – 27
We cross the border to Zimbabwe and make our way to Bulawayo, the second largest city in Zimbabwe. Here we enjoy the evening exploring the city and the bustling night life. The following day we explore Matobo National Park with a local operator by vehicle and foot to view the endangered Rhino's that inhabit the area, the many roaming animals and some bushman paintings which are located in nearby caves.

Day 28 – 30
Leaving Bulawayo, we continue south to the border at Beitbridge. Completing formalities we cross the Limpopo River -the second largest in South Africa and an important water source for this arid region. From here we visit southern Africa’s most famed national park - Kruger. The fences between the private game reserves on the fringes of the park, and the park’s borders with adjoining Mozambique and Botswana, have been taken down to form Greater Kruger and the park’s animals are free to roam the whole area. Kruger and Greater Kruger cover over 24,000 sq km and is home to an incredible wealth of African animals from the dwarf mongoose to Africa’s ‘Big Five’ (leopard, lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo). There is also an incredible diversity of birdlife and flora to be discovered. We spend two nights within the Kruger area and take game drives across the savannah to glimpse some of the wildlife that inhabits the park. .

Day 31
On the last day of the tour, we travel via the Panorama region of Mpumalanga with its beautiful scenery and dramatic escarpment views, to Johannesburg where our tour ends. Also known as the ‘City of Gold’, it is one of the most cosmopolitan cities on the African continent.

About Our Reviews

Our reviews are Fully Qualified

We do not take reviews from unqualified sources

Since 1996 we have been working with the best tour operators in Africa. Our unique relationship with those operators ensures only people who have participated in a trip after making an enquiry for it at AfricaGuide.com can leave a review.

The email we send you when you make an enquiry has full instructions for registering a booking and leaving a review - both are free services.

Feel free to read through the reviews for any trip you like the look of.

Trips with no reviews are usually new to AfricaGuide.com but are normally operated by a tour operator who is established here and has gained operator reviews for you to read.

Thanks for visiting, happy travels and don't forget to send us your reviews...

About our trip providers and reviews

Our Trip Providers

We carry out extensive company checks on all our providers, over 20 years we have built strong personal relationships with each of them, which assures you of an unparalleled service, great value and the trip of a lifetime.
We have participated in many of the trips found here (we have a nice job) and make our own independent assessments of the services provided, ensuring they meet with our own high standards.

All the trips are supplied by the end provider of that trip.
You may find the same or similar trips elsewhere, usually these are offered by an agent.
We prefer to give you direct access to the trip provider for reasons outlined below:

  1. Best price.
The price you see here is the direct trip price set by the provider, the same price as purchasing directly with them (which is how it works), there are no added commissions.
This means you are not paying an agents commission and the provider is receiving their fully budgeted trip cost.
(agents can demand discounts from providers as well as adding commissions to the providers trip price)
  2. Easy customisation.
By booking directly with the end provider, making changes is quick and easy.
  3. Fast problem solving.
On the rare occasion that an issue may arise before or during your trip, by dealing directly with the end provider, problem solving is quick and efficient.
  4. Helping Africa help itself.
The most straightforward way to assist the economic opportunities and conditions for local people across Africa, is by direct financial interaction with people in Africa. In a nutshell "Tourism".
This kind of direct tourism gives opportunity to local people.

We limit the number of providers we work with in order to strike a balance between a good choice of trips and to be sure we can honestly recommend the service and validity of each provider.
Because the majority of trips can be customised by the providers, the choice of trip configurations is in the tens of thousands.

Our Reviews

We have 3,000+ reviews for our trips and providers.
All our reviews are fully qualified, we do not take unqualified reviews.
We show all reviews, the good and the critical (very few). Our providers have the ability to respond to reviews and those responses are shown alongside the review.
Acquiring genuine reviews is actually very hard, for our genuine travellers we make this an easy process but many people although satisfied with the service they received do not leave a review.

Many reviews on the internet can be left by an open process with little or no checks.
At best unqualified reviews are worthless, at worst they are misleading. We never take unqualified reviews.

We hope you find a trip to your liking and we are here to assist.

Wishing you happy travels...
