The Africa Collection - Jock of the Bushveld The Africa Collection - Jock of the Bushveld VHS   (amazon.com) - USA
A story of courage and adventure all set in the Southern Africa bush... Jock has become a folk-hero in South Africa... watch this and you'll now why! Based on the novel by Fitzpatrick, it is one of those rare flics where the film is as good as the book. A cultural tear-jerker of an adventure, with a superb soundtrack to match - curtousy of Johnny Clegg and Savuka (formally Jaluku).
Greystoke - The Legend of Tarzan, Greystoke - The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes VHS   (amazon.com) - USA    (amazon.co.uk) - UK
Tarzan Escapes Tarzan Escapes  VHS   (amazon.com) - USA
Graphically violent (for its time), and energetically directed, this entertaining entry has Tarzan captured by a hunter who wants to put him on exhibition in England. This film was completely reshot and reworked when the original version proved too potent and blood-curdling for preview audiences; as a result there are some plot holes in what might have been the best Tarzan movie of all. ( Leonard Maltin's Movie & Video Guide )
Cry the Beloved Country Cry the Beloved Country  VHS   (amazon.com) - USA
Simple back-country minister journeys to Johannesburg in search of his son, while fate links his path with that of a wealthy, bigoted white landowner. Heart-rending story chronicles racial divisiveness (and its roots) in South Africa without resorting to preachiness.
Darkest Africa Darkest Africa (1936)  VHS   (amazon.com) - USA
If you think that it was made in 1936 , with all dificulties then existing, the flying bat man, The Goddes of Jobba and the performance of the main star Clyde Beatt you must consider that the result is excellent. I expected to see something extremely naive ...on the contrary, revisiting my past (because the first time I watched the film I was 10 years old) I was pleasantly surprised with a very well realesed serial motion picture. ( a viewer from S. José do Rio Preto, SP, Brazil)
Children's Stories From Africa: Childrens Stories From Africa Vol. 1 (1997)  VHS   (amazon.com) - USA
This nice change-of-pace video focuses on the storyteller instead of snappy animation or effects. Nandi Nyembe tells six stories on a stage of an African hut. The stories are built around the age-old tales of African wildlife: wart hogs, monkeys, crocodiles, and the like. These tales teach simple morals: the dangers of greed, the importance of picking your friends, following your heart.
