New Music
African Spirit - Soweto Gospel Choir (Artist)
(amazon.com) - USA    (amazon.co.uk) - Europe
African Spirit, the Choir's third CD, is their most accessible project yet with an irresistible mix of their versions of internationally known inspirational songs and distinctive South African gospel, including some of the songs that have received the greatest response from their audiences.

Vieux Farka Toure - Vieux Farka Toure (Artist)
(amazon.com) - USA    (amazon.co.uk) - Europe
Music from Mali: the self-titled debut by the son of the late international superstar and two-time GRAMMY© Award-winner Ali Farka Touré. The album features Ali himself on two remarkable pieces. A highly talented guitarist, singer, songwriter, and percussionist, Vieux has crafted a globalminded style all his own. With flourishes of rock and reggae amidst Saharan Blues and traditional Malian melodies, Vieux Farka Toure ushers in the next generation of Mali blues

M'Bem Di Fora - Lura (Artist)
(amazon.com) - USA    (amazon.co.uk) - Europe
Lura brings us extraordinary and exotic music of the volcanic island of Cabo Verde, whose rich blend of trade route cultures has created an unusual musical tradition of intoxicating rhythms and piercing melodies.

One Life - Johnny Clegg (Artist)
(amazon.com) - USA    (amazon.co.uk) - Europe
"One Life" has all the instrumental and vocal hallmarks that made the best Clegg & Savuka albums so great in the late 80's and early 90's. This is the band's best album in years. It is a return to the mixture of Western and Zulu rhythms, and English and Zulu lyrics that make this group so exciting

Afrikya, Vol. 1: A Musical Journey Through Africa - Marcus Samuelsson (Artist), Donna d'Cruz (Artist)
(amazon.com) - USA    (amazon.co.uk) - Europe
Ethiopian born, Swedish raised Marcus Samuelsson.has collaborated with Rasa Music's founder and renowned celebrity DJ Donna D'Cruz to bring together this CD which is a hip, contemporary musical celebration and features artists from Tunisia, South Africa, Senegal, Mali, Ethiopia, Harlem, Sweden, and Cape Verde.

A world premiere: squeeze-bulb honk horns join bells, drums, and voices to sound the world of union drivers and their vehicles on the 50th anniversary of Ghana's independence. Recorded by Steven Feld.

Gems From the Classic Years (1967-1976) - King Sunny Ade (Artist)
(amazon.com) - USA    (amazon.co.uk) - Europe
One of the most popular and important performers of the Nigerian musical style known as Juju--a fluid, highly rhythmic music that used traditional African percussion to create a dense, multi-layered sound--King Sunny Ade brought new stylistic concepts to the form and helped introduce the music to an international audience.

Golden Afrique 3 - Various Artists (Artist)
(amazon.com) - USA    (amazon.co.uk) - Europe
The music of Zimbabwe is inspired by the sound of the mbira, a traditional instrument echoed directly in the guitar cascades of The Four Brothers and Hallelujah Chicken Run. We also hear rhumbira and jit, rooted in Congolese rumba. From the copper belt of Zambia comes a more Central African dance sound, represented here by the Masasu Band, The Big Gold Six and Smokey Hangala. This exciting compilation includes many rare gems never previously released on CD

Amin Iman: Water Is Life- Tinariwen (Artist)
(amazon.com) - USA   (amazon.co.uk) - Europe
Music from Mali: On their third album they keep the root intact, the desert blues still at the heart of all they do, but this builds upon what they achieved on their superb sophomore disc, happily restless and unafraid of walking down new paths. However, although they're rightly lauded for their widescreen blues sound, what emerges most here is that they're a remarkable rock & roll band, too.

Urban Africa Club - Various Artists (Artist)
(amazon.com) - USA   (amazon.co.uk) - Europe
introduces some of Africa's greatest stars and scenes on the continent. Westafrica is represented by V.I.P. from Accra the unchallenged superstars of Ghana's hiplife scene. Gabon has a distinct melodic type of hip-hop that is just starting to make itself heard. Senegal probably has the hip-hop scene in Africa with the closest connection to the rest of the world. Urban Africa Club features a new track by one of the pioneers of hip-hop in Africa: Awadi, the founder of Senegalese supergroup Positive Black Soul a band that managed to release the first international african hip-hop album ever.
