Travelling in Egypt & the Red Sea

Hi
We are planning to travel to Egypt in September and would like to know from anyone who has been there recently - is it relatively calm and safe for two girls travelling alone?

Any suggestions on budget places to stay in Cairo and the Red Sea would be appreciated?

We also are interested in travelling south to the Red Sea to do some diving - has anyone out there recently travelled by bus - any diving outfit recommendations?

I can definately recommend Dahab on the Egyptian coast for cheap diving, accomodation, cool restaurants. I used the Nesima dive center (highly recommended.They have there own accomodation in the form of cheap £5 night bungalows.
Sharms a bit of a concrete jungle and rather expensive.
