We would like to tour Botswana Kalahari and Okavango next year and prefer to do it ourselves. Is this possible or must we join a group or book a package tour.

Well, Bostswana is a beautiful place. Covering a full 84 percent of Botswana’s land area, the semi-arid Kgalagadi terrain dominates most of the country. Refuting the classical perception of desert as a barren, vegetation-less, useless land, the Kgalagadi (Kalahari) is rich in natural resources. You can visit whole place without the help of guide. But if you hire a guide he can help you to understand the place deeply.

For independent travellers touring the region Botswana offers an interesting contrast to the poverty of its northern neighbours, and is free from the apartheid hangover that still blights South Africa. Botswana has a long established tourism industry and levels of service are good, hassles are low and tourist numbers minimal away from the main parks, allowing for some magical 'off the beaten path' experiences.

No, I don’t think it is a wise decision. Botswana covers a huge land area and touring without a tourist guide would be a daunting task.

Botswana is a nice place to visit. I have been there few years ago. Botswana is a land of dramatic contrasts - from the crystal-clear waters of the Okavango Delta to the large elephant herds in the Chobe National Park and the unpredictable Savute Channel, which runs dry and floods seemingly at random. Blessed with some of Africa's most beautiful reserves and an array of exceptional wildlife, Botswana is an unforgettable safari destination.
