I have degree in pharmacy from United States and my wife is a pharmacy technician. We have worked in the pharmacy industry for more than 3 years now, we would like to move to Uganda. What is your advice on the job situation for us?

Hai,
I can give u a good advice to you. Here pharmacy oppurtunity is very few and not required qualified people too. Most of the medicines importing from India & China and few from other countries too. Local manufactures are also contributing some.
No MRP here in Uganda. So, medical shops is like petty shops in uganda..and sellers mostly business minded people.you can't see any pharmacist or trained person in shop.couterfeit drugs and expaired drugs are widely available.
You can read in magazines that National drug authority is doing in professional way...but when you approach any of them all in paper...reality is totally different.
If you are a foreign pharmacist ..according to law u need to register with PSU(pharmacutical society in uganda) for practise...that is really cheating...
They dont have any particular or book let for that..If u go there many times they will give you incomplete guidlines.if you as any doubts secretary dont bother..other peoples are useless..they dont know anything about it.for submitting ur accadamic papers..
if your certificate are okey then you have to pay USD 800 ...after paying that they were very happy..bze they cheated you very nicely...
they will organise a meeting...and they will say u have to pass pre intership examination(eligibility test)..
that questions in not like (MCQ) they can ask you any question from any part of pharmacy and it is essay questions & short answers like that..so, they can put any mark as their wish...it means their aim is very clear.. they will never allow any foreign pharmacist to work in uganda.
I hope now you got an idea about pharmacy in uganda....

The scope of pharmacy practice includes more traditional roles such as compounding and dispensing medications, and it also includes more modern services related to health care, including clinical services, reviewing medications for safety and efficacy, and providing drug information. Pharmacists, therefore, are the experts on drug therapy and are the primary health professionals who optimize medication use to provide patients with positive health outcomes.

An establishment in which pharmacy (in the first sense) is practiced is called a pharmacy, chemist's or drug store. These stores commonly sell not only medicines, but also miscellaneous items such as candy (sweets), cosmetics, and magazines, as well as light refreshments or groceries.

The word pharmacy is derived from its root word pharma which was a term used since the 1400–1600s. In addition to pharma responsibilities, the pharma offered general medical advice and a range of services that are now performed solely by other specialist practitioners, such as surgery and midwifery. The pharma (as it was referred to) often operated through a retail shop which, in addition to ingredients for medicines, sold tobacco and patent medicines. The pharmas also used many other herbs not listed.

So, if you are looking for a career in the medical field that is in high demand, consider a Pharmacy Technician Associate's Degree.
