Hello all -
I am a 25 year old, single white woman who has recently been offered a job in Johannesburg. I would be rellocating this October (2007), if I do accept the job. I am so excited to be moving to a new country and a new place, but having never been feel a little bit anxious about what to expect, especially after doing some preliminary research, which quite frankly, scared me!
I have a few questions:
- On a salary of USD 1,600 per month, tax not included, what kind of life could I expect to have (taking into account that I would need to rent/buy a car, get my own insurance, rent my own apartment, etc...)?
- Does anyone have any recomendations on areas to live in? I was thinking of Melville, as my work is based in Newton...? Any insider tips would be much appreciated...
- Will I really be hiding in my barbed wire fenced apartment scared to leave once it gets dark?
My real concerns are with my quality of life. I currenlty live in London, a very cosmopolitan and vibrant city, where despite having certain no-go zones, I am basically free to walk around and not be too fearful about security risks.
I am excited to begin this new chapter in my life, but do need some advice to ease my fears and my mind, and make a confident decision onthis matter. Please email me by clicking on the SEND ME AN EMAIL link, and I'd love to hear from you and have a bit of a chat.
Looking forward to meeting you
Best -
