Bus to Maputo

I want to know which is the best way to get from Johannesburg to Maputo. Is the Greyhound service safe for backpackers?

I have the same question as Jackeim and was happy to know the buses are good. I'm thinking of flying in to Jo'burg and catching the bus sometime early in 2006. Would you have any specific information about schedules, length of trip, price, suggestions on what to take along on the bus? What about getting from Jo'burg airport to the appropriate bus station. Thanks for the advice.

You should also see if the Panthera Azul 'luxury' coach travels from Jo-burg, it does from Durban, a good Mozambique service. Greyhound is safe and comfortable. You should get all coach service timetables on the web.
