Hello, we are also english & have renovated a dar last year. We also looked at building our own property. Things to watch for - when build costs are quoted to you by an architect or developer - they could be vastly inflated. Check these with an independent builder & you might get a surprise! Also build costs do not usually include materials, just the labour, so you will need to add that...and the price of sand & cement has increased this last year. Also you should check to what finish the cost is quoted - does it include tiling, painting. If you are working with an architect, you need to check very carefully what they will actually do for you. Watch how much you pay upfront and keep an eye on the £/euro exchange rate - small drops can impact your udget substantially. Email me if you like for specific queries.
