Hi

I should be able to help with this as I've just completed the whole process and was married in Agadir last Friday!

The process of marrying a Moroccan as a foreign national is complicated and pricey so be warned!

1st I applied for a police record check in the UK (I'm English). This cost me £10 and I applied for it at my local police station. It takes about 2 weeks to be processed. Then I should have applied for a cetificate of eligibility to marry at my local registery office. But I left it too late and paid the price of having to later request one from the British Consulate in Casablanca and boy do they know how to charge! I then obtained a letter from my work confirming that I was in full time employment and my salary. I took all these documents along with my birth cert to Morocco.

When I got there I took the best step that I beleive anyone can take when dealing with these matters and employed an English speaking translater Mr Brahim Beneyamhim from Agadir (details on avail on request). The cost of Brahim's service was really reasonable and worth every penny or Dirham if you like. He advised me to get a medical certifcate and arranged for me to convert to Islam ( a requirement for men marrying Maroc women). I then went to the Brit Consulate in Casablanca. Where they gave me for the fee of £160 an Affidavit of Nationality and Eligibility to Marry and also the statement of honour that I have never married before. I then had to go to Rabat, Annexe du Ministère des Affaires Etrangères to have these 3 docs certified. This cost the price of 3 stamps but was hassle as the Annex is a confusing place. You need to go there in the morning drop your papers off and recieve a queing ticket. You then come back later in the morning when told and have your 3 docs stamped and certified. Its best to have a maroc speaking friend with you on this one.

After that I went to the Ministère de la Justice Section des Marriages in Rabat and obtained a Maroc police check. This was completed in a day and cost 20MDH.

I then took all these papers back to Brhim in Agadir where he translated them all into Arabic. He also wrote a letter to the judge requesting the marraige. He charged me a mere 900MDH for this service and it was worth every penny. My fiancee then had to go to her father and gain a letter of approval, a police check, cert of never having married and a cert of her adress. Brahim put all these papers together with loads of passport photos of us and made about 5/6 files.

We then took the papers to the local family court where the court clerk started the admin process. As I did not have a lot of time to wait I chose to fast track the process by offering the clerk a fee (read into this as you may!). This really helped as the clerk ensured that the Wakeel who signs the 1st step got my papers immediately as opposed to them sitting around forever. We then were interviewed by the Wakeel who signed the papers and told us to take them to the local police for checks.

We then went to the local police who interviewed us and again we chose to 'fast track'the process which ensured that it was all done that day instead of taking maybe a couple of weeks. We then took the papers back to the court where a judge signed them off. Then we went to the court apointed Adould who married us. My bride requested a Dowry which I put a down payment on at the Adouls office. This is more a custom than anything else. We were then given a reciept for the Marriage cert that arrives next week! And now we are married.

We then had a big do at my wifes parents home!

If you need anymore details jsut ask and best wishes for your marriage!

Hi, i have to thank you with all my heart for your detailed information,im glad and hoping it all worked out for you.
i have just 1 question if you would please.
on your post you wrote about going to cassablanca and they giving you some paper work for which they genorously charged you £160. im not understanding if this is the paper work i can obtain from the local registery office. is it a certificate to show i am eligible to marry and i am currently not married?
as per your earlier paragraphs you mentioned that you didnt take with you a certain document . is this the same document from the registry office?
i would appreciate if you can ellaborate on it for me.

p.s. did you take any mobile phone bills? printed out email etc to proove your communication following up to the wedding?
im sorry however i have not started on any paper work and i intend to marry in july so i could do with all the help i can receive. thank you.much obliged

I will be back there in morocco again to marry my fiance this time, but I only have a month to do everything and then i have to get back to the usa for work again. we are Doing a Cr1. can you please let me know how I can get in touch with Mr. Brahim Beneyamhim from Agadir? My fiance and I have been throughh a lot in the past 2 months. we got denied his k1- visa there in casa with the CO. we are now doing what our attorney is suggesting, which is to marry in Morocco and then file a CR1. No, there is none .. service-public.ma is a government website (available also in English) that has a list of required documents for a mixed marriage in Morocco. Although, you will need to provide some papers showing what you do for a living, just to make your application plausible since you will be interviewed with your wife-to-be at the police station after you apply at the court (tribunal de première instance) and they transfer the files to the police to give their OK before the files go back again to court and receive the final OK for you to sign the marriage contract at the "adoul" office

Hi, this is Maria, I was reading the posts about marriage in Morocco. My fiancé is from Morocco and I am from USA. We are trying to get marry this summer and we are struggling about paper work and procedure. One of my questions is about my evidence of employment from employer in USA or source of income IF I am not working and other question is about the letter from my Church because I am Catholic, do I really need it ??

My last question, do somebody help you both to the procedure in Morocco in order to do it faster ??

Thank you

No, Islam considers a child's religious heritage to eminate from the mother. Therefore only men wishing to marry Muslim woman are required to convert. Thereby ensuring the child's faith is safeguarded.

First, Find out why they won't give you the blessing and fix it. Become Muslim if not already. Say Shahaada in front of his parents and read the first surah of the Quran to his Father or have his father help you read it. Islam is the answer. Peace be upon you.

Hi Claire

I got married in Decemeber and it took me 21 days in total to get married but a few days were wasted as me and my husband didn't know some things so we had to go from Rabat and Marrakech a few times! lol. You get your certificate of Nationality from the British Embassy in Casablanca and if i remember rightly its £30. Any questions feel free to ask. <img src="[www.africaguide.com]]

Hi

thanks for that message, i'm just about to go through it all too. My fiance is from Fez but now living and working in Agadir.

I had a few questions for you (or anyone), if you wouldn't mind having a look:

- Could I have the details of your translator please? He sounds very reasonable!

- Why go to Casablanca for those papers? I thought they are from the consulate in Rabat, which is the same town as the Annexe du Ministère des Affaires Etrangères. Or is it only from Casablanca?

- I am a born muslim girl from the UK, do you know what document I can give to prove that I was born a muslim please? I've never heard of that before.

- how much did you give to 'fast track' the processes?

- Do you have to get married on the same day?? Do you know if it is possible to marry in a different town? Although my fiance is from Fez (residency) I love the idea of getting married in Agadir.

And last of all, how long did the whole process take for you in Morocco?

Many thanks for your help

Shama

Oh yes, just another question.

The British Embassy site says that for the Marriage visa application, 6 months of payslips should be shown. Do you think three would be acceptable? (Three months is required for some other countries)

I was living in Morocco for a few months, and only started working in March this year.

Many thanks

Hello:

i am a canadian citizen, indian by birth. i met this moroccon guy on the internet, from #####. we have been talking only for a couple weeks and such, but we click really well and i am thinking of visiting him in october. he has already proposed marriage to me, but i am actually really scared for some reason. a few people here told me that in morocco men are always just harrassing the women and that the only way they can get out of the country is by marrying someone. of course, cannot be true for every person - but can someone please give me insight to the culture and men in morocco? i am totally inexperienced with this whole marrying outside of my country concept and have no idea what to expect, what to be careful of.

i do not mean any offence to anyone, but as a woman, i am just very skeptical.

please provide some guidance.
thank you

Hi

It's natural to be scared when someone you barely know proposes marriage to you!

I think if you are serious then you can think about visiting him before considering marriage seriously. It's much easier to click online than it is in person.

From my experiences, Moroccan people are open to welcoming other cultures, but I guess this depends on the person.

I have also heard a lot about moroccan men who marry just for a visa, it really does happen.

But as you said, there are plenty of genuine love stories out there too. People are the same from every country, you get some great ones and some who just look out for themselves!

Kind regards and good luck

My ex-husband used me for a greencard. I am almost 10 years older and was a larger woman. I gave him my heart and he used me, abused me and broke my heart. He was abusive in everyway. I will never trust a Moroccan person again. I do not believe in bashing other religions but I will not ever trust a Muslim person again because of the hell I have lived through for 6 years. He is evil. Taoufik El Fatihi, don't trust him. Don't trust anyone from Morocco. They will hurt you and use you. PERIOD! If you are still married think twice! He will screw you in the end.

I think it depends on where you go, what town is he in? The big ones are quite modern and safe, and there are lots of taxis.

if you're asian (like me) you'll probably blend in a bit. if you speak french or arabic it'll be much easier for you.

i recommend just be careful of the usual tourist things! but nothing major really.

Men o Men!!!! Im Moroccan living in the US for 20 years , and I tell you I love it in here , specially when it comes to any documents that you need. You get them right away, because it is your right, so much for the glory of bullshit to kiss ASS in morocco to get something that is absolutely.
I feel for you girl!! so many paper work!!! your not marring the prince of morocco here, come on now! this is should be easy and fun, i don't see the need of police report or check up. is this mean if you are a felon. you can't get married?? of cause you will!! so what's the point then having a POLICE CHECK ???? I say GIVE ME A BREAK.

someone did this , someone did that - they are all out for money - i guess can get a little scary from a woman's prespective.
its only on this site that i have read something good and positive, otherwise its all been a de moralising search on websites.

i am planning to go in october.. i am looking forward to it, i am sure wiill be a nice trip.
how has your experience been in the USA?

Hi,
I am from the UK and got married in Rabat in August. I also was not in employment when I got married as my employer would not let me have the time off. I took my old wage slips and just explained my circumstances which was not a problem. I don't think they are that bothered so long as you show how you are supporting yourself. The whole process took just less than 4 weeks and was very stressful. If you love someone that much then a bit of stress is nothing!
I hope this has been of help.
Good luck with your marriage.

i'm going to get married in morocco in about 3 weeks. i went before to get married back in april but couldn't. this time, i have collected and translated all the paperwork needed for the marriage. however, i have been informed from my country's embassy that i cannot renew my capacity of marriage. i know that documents for marriage in morocco expire after 3 months? is there possible that they will accept all of my current documents with a capacity from april seeing that it is not in my control how the country gives out capacities and it's not in my control about expiration dates in morocco.

thanks in advance

Hello Everyone:

I am a Moroccan national, my wife is American and we have been married for two years. Getting married in morocco is very complicated indeed and it takes several weeks. Furthermore, it will take more time and paperwork after your husband or wife move to live with you. There is an easy way to avoid all this hassel and headache. The fiancee Visa. My wife and I did this procedure when we were in Dubai and it only took 3 months to finish all the paperwork.
I can provide you with more information if you are interested.

Read your article on the Africa guide. I been through the Moroccan marriage but now two years later and a tribunal appeal that was allowed the clearance officer is insisting that we take up to date pay slips, bank statements, proof of accommodation, proof of relationship. He said he will make an informal decision about my husband visa. I been back to my lawyer who says this is not acceptable as the appeal was granted. Have you heard anything similar to this and if so what was the solution.

I am American and I arrived in Morocco on December 2nd of 2007. We started all the marriage process right away and we were officially married on January 7th. And yes I did not convert to Islam and yes I did need two birth certificates. I also went Direct Consular Filing and petitioned for my husband in October of this year and the petition was approved. He now has his interview on December 22nd. I am a resident and will complete one full year next month.

I am a European female and I am not a Muslim woman. I am married to a Muslim man. I did not have to convert to islam. At the embassy of Rabat my declaration of being single include my Christian religion. I was allowed to get married in morocco to my husband. As I said our marriage Certificate states that it is a mix marriage in the area of religion. I hope this is clear also

As above if you are a foreign woman marrying a Moroccan man you will not need to convert, if you are a foreign man marrying a Moroccan woman you will.

I would be interested to hear any informed views as to why there is a discrepancy between the @#$%&.

Savat!

I am hopeing to get married to the moost beautiful girl in morocco. With gods will.

I know my chances are slim, but if anybody can help improveing my odds, I am greatful.

I have some questions I hope somebody can assist me.

First of all: somebody say I have to visit the local police station before I can get the statement of criminal record from the ministry of justice, is this correct?

and do I need a medical certification from morroco if I bring one from norway (translated into arabic)?

My tip to everybody is to bring as many certification as you can think of from home. I mean birth, work, medical anything.

Thank you very much.

If we want to travel to morocco and be married what are the steps to that what paperwork do i have to have is it a complicated process do i still have to go through all the police checks and all that...If someone knows step by step to let me know please tell me. I heard that if you were from USA you did not have to go through all the police check and that it was as simple as just going there and getting married please let me know all the details if you know them thanks

Get married in the US. Then go to the Masjad and get married. Then send your Islamic marriage liscense in Arabic to the Moroccan Consulate and get it stamp. Call the consulate and they should be able to help you. It's so simple this way. People from UK and Canada should try this. Have your Moroccan partner go to your country and get married. Once you have the stamped marrige liscense, you will not get hasseled when you travel to Morocco.

It would be interesting to hear Immmortalthetis how youve got on - its a year now and more since your last post - In the last 6 years Ive been involved with Morocco and Moroccans many marry only for visa and eventually passport to freedom - plus the better living circumstances of course in the meantime - a lot of very poor people in Morocco, hard to get a higher education unless have money, and then harder to get a decent job, of course a lot of the younger ones dont like that and see a lot of what the others/foreigners have by what they see on TV and tourists coming, and instead of looking for ways to go to uni or something, they look for being lucky with a foreign woman - and foreign woman can be generally easy to catch as quite naiive and listen to words rather that understanding that these guys learn to manipulate and lie to get what they want from early age and so can do it easily and its verydifficult to read that in their body language as they are so cool and charming about it.

I have good friends who live in Norway - they have been married 15 years - she is Norwegian - he is Moroccan - they got married in a church in Norway and did the appropriate legals for marriage in Norway - they never had a ceremony or did anything for marriage in Morocco - he has along the way got his Norwegian passport and they travel back and stay in Morocco for several months every year without any problems - he no longer travels or uses a Moroccan ID card to enable any chance of getting involved with moroccan bureaucratics when travelling with her as they are man and wife - this is a wonderful agreeement!
She never had to sign any paper to falsely agree to become Muslim - which in my case I couldnt go ahead and do because as much as love was involved I also have my integrity and honesty to deal with, plus I could never deny Jesus, so unless you have reasons why you really want or must get married in Morocco then save a lot of hassle and hard work and just get married in the USA!
If he has his greencard and you are very happy with him, then wait out the time you need until he gets his american passport.

In my comment, I assume all people converted to Islam when marring a Moroccan and truly love one another and not for Visa or money. Muslims do not deny Jesus (peace be upon him) either. He is one of the prophets; but he is not the son of GOD! Think about it. If Jesus was Lord, why did he pray to GOD? He was human just like the rest of us.

Just an update from me (posted sometime back)

Married my Moroccan wife in June 2007, applied for visa to UK in December 2007 and which was granted in March 2008 and will expire in March 2010. We now have two little boys and are very happy.

Next step is for my wife to seek indefinate leave to remain.

We travel back to Morocco about twice a year.

Good luck to anyone getting married in Morocco soon.

Wow, crazy stuff. I am a U.S. citizen and wife is Moroccan and was a U.S permanent resident. We got married very easy in the U.S. and flew through the process in Morocco as well so we could have a wedding for her family that could not make it here. Weddings in Morocco are ridiculously expensive and because we spent so much money also we have some friends in high places so maybe that why it took almost no time, seriously I had to sign 2 papers one showing I will support and one showing my wealth with a few paystubs and the Marriage certificate was stamped right then. My suggestion is spend over 20,000 us on the wedding and invite the right people to the wedding. Or else its going to take forever... Wedding was in Casa
