Long term rentals, dricing licenses and a couple of other questions

Hi there

My wife and I are moving to Mauritius, end of January from South Africa.

We have confirmed jobs and our work permits / etc are being taken care of.

We are thrilled. We have lived in Seychelles, and know Mauritius is much the same ... only MUCH better!

Problems we have though ...

We are looking for a long term rental. We'll be working around Ebene, so if you have anything on offer let me know, my wife is there week after next (18/11/07 for 5 days) maybe you could meet up?

Also, I was wondering about getting my dog into the island? I have heard you can get away with ONE month quarantine as long as your paperwork is in order, can anyone confirm this?

Finally, are South African driving licenses legal in Mauritius? Anyone know?

Thank you, I appreciate your help, and found this forum fascinating!

Kind regards

Paul

Hi Paul,
your information about dog import is right, I broth my golder retriever too , since april 2004 is the quarantine 1 month, but it is not bad there you can visit your dog every day.
We can even offer you an appartement or room. We are living in Quatre Bornes.
Thanks

HI Nelson

Thanks for the information!

My wife was over last week and found us a lovely home in Black River, and we found out most of the information we could about our dog, so ... we're moving over at the end of January!

Maybe we meet you over there?

Regards and thanks!

Paul

Hi Paul and everyone.

It was nice meeting with madam in Mauritius. However, no news from you since then. As for driving licences, you should bring your own while travelling, and then here you must go to the traffic headquarter in Port Louis and apply for one that will enable you drive in here.

Long term car rentals are available. Please tell me what type of vehicle you're looking for an the approximate budget. Bear in mind that small cars cost around Rs600 per day (discounted for long terms) and luxury ones may reach up to Rs2,500.

Anyone in need of information, please do not hesitate to drop me a mail.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!

Hi Nadeem!

We are still coming! Don't worry, just looks like things are delayed a little, by a couple of weeks, but we are DEFINITELY using your services, and I gave some other people your contacts details too. Hope thats ok!

Thanks for the other info, we will be buying a car there, maybe even two, we'll see how it goes with one first! Also looks like we have found a nice house in Black River.

I will be in touch AS SOO as I have some more info!

Sorry again!

Kindest regards for 2008!

Paul and Gail and Chutney!
