First of all as a Moroccan citizen , I would like to welcome you to my beautiful country.Eljadida is very interesting city , it exists on the coast , it has very nice golden beaches like Sidi Bouzid beach.
I went there on October with a foreign friend who is interested in buying an appartment in Eljadida.The price varies according to the location , we asked about prices in some housing-offices , it costs from 45 000 to 50 000 Euros.

Firstly you need to decide where you want to live, Living in a town or city has its advantages, as You may not find any English spoken in the countryside. You are only allowed to stay 3 months then you must leave the country, It's good if you want to visit Spain for some shopping, but a bit of a costly exercise otherwise. Once you have found somewhere to live you should apply to the local immigration police for a residence permit. you will need 10 photos and a Moroccan bank account, prefferably with a few thousand pounds in it. The forms are in French.

Its easy to apply for a residence permit, but you will need to have a place to live, and a monthly direct debit into a Moroccan bank account.

Hello Hazel and Mitzi. My name is Nancy and I have been living in Essaouira for the past 6 years from the U.S...California.
I will tell you that nothing is easy here. But there is great charm in everything. Most days I think it is all worth it.
Land and housing prices are soaring. You must , especailly as a (lone?) western woman, be Very Careful who you trust..generally, no one. At least at first. Dont ever say how much money you have to spend. Never. And talk to a lot of other europeans who have lived here a few years. Especially single women. Because of the rising land prices, there are con artists abounding ,mostly Moroccan, but plenty of europeans too. So be very careful and cautious. Rent for as long as you need to. Dont be in a hurry. I love Essaouira because it is a charming , laid back and elegant little beach community and is only an easy 2 hours from Marrakech. The two cities together are a lovely combination. Im engaged to a moroccan man and might be moving to morocco if by some chance he cant get approved for US visa. My question to you is this .. how much is an apartment? One with a normal western style toilet. How much do apartments cost to buy? Again, only with a normal western toilet. I can't handle that turkish style toilet ... lol I like casablanca/agadir/rabat. It doesn't need to be in the center of city .. but nothing out in the middle of nowhere. Im just looking for something clean and nice. It doesn't have to be huge or anything. Just clean. It's so hard to find any information on the web pertaining to all this. Also, you never know who to trust about pricing. As soon as they hear you are american, boom .. the price just increased. I love morocco very much but living there scares me beyond anything. Life is so different. It's not bad or wrong .. just different then the United States. People are friendly but since I can't speak arabic or french .. it's a little lonely. I love my fiance so I will do whatever I need to do to be with him. I just want as much information as possible. Any info you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

First of all, i'm asking for permission to jump in to this discussion.
My name is Abe, a real estate agent based in Essaouira, i've been helping so many europeans and and northern americans renting out and buying oproperties in the Medina of Essaouira and the countryside surrounding the city.
I just saw your posting and i thought i could help.
Renting a small house in the Medina is absolutely possible especially at this time of the year, since summer time is the busiest.
You also have the choice of renting a modern appartment by the beach outside the Medina ( 10 minutes walk to the Medina). When i say the Medina that means the old town.
For a furnished traditional house in the Medina, you should expect at least 2000 moroccan Dirhams a month, depending on it's shape, location and how furnished it is. Some thing descent would be around 3000 DHs amonth ( 300 euros ).
I personally like the idea of moving here and renting first. That way, chances of letting some one - either a land lord or an estate agent - take you for a ride are slim.
The good thing about your plan is that you're getting here in the slow season, which will help you find exactly what you're looking for.

His family live just outside casablanca in a city called mohammedia. Luckily, housing wouldnt be a concern as his father owns an apartment complex. However, I would love to hear from someone who has made the move to morocco. Im curios as to what adjustments need to be made from a life in the US to one in morocco and what I should expect. Also, I am concerned about what sort of employment opportunities are there for me. I am currently studying education but have not yet graduated. would there be employment opportunities there without a degree?

I think it's better for you to stay in USA than coming here to Morocco and you'd better for your husband to fix his problem. Life here is difficult and chance of employment are less since you're not a native. Mot people speak Arabic and second lauguage here is french...Life is hard here and you both won't get what you want here... I think it's better for ur husband to get a lawyer to fix his problem and he has the right to get a permanent residence since you're a citizen... Check out: travel.state.gov and u will find any information u need for getting a permanent residence

Well, to find a good school for your kids in Agadir is not that difficult since Agadir is not that big city... Well, I don't think there is some English school here but there American Language center and your kids can get English language lessons there the same also with French language. There is French language center here called "IFA) and they provide french courses but most schools here kids learn Arabic and french and english in some schools.

I moved to Agadir last year with the same concerns as you, regarding schools. My daughter, age 4 started at a french school Blaise Pascal, she could not speak a word of French, but the teachers and staff all speak English as well, within 4 months she was speaking very good french, and picking up Arabic from a play mates. Next year she will start to learn Arabic as part of her school curriculum as well as French.
Blaise Pascal is 850 dirhams a month with a one off insurance payment of 1500 dirhams for the year. You also have to provide school books, pens, paper etc for your child for the year, the school gives you a list of things required, it cost us for this year 420 dirhams, so not expensive. Most schools provide transport depending on the area you live, you will have to check with individual schools as to the type of service they provide.
