"Advise needed Please...."
Posted by Nikola on Jan-03-03 at 08:40 AM (GMT)
My fiance and I are looking at going to Kenya in February 2004 to get married. We have been offered my Aunt's two week timeshare as a wedding present, but we can't decide where to stay. We can choose to stay in:-
Royal Reserve Safari & Beach Club - Mombassa
Palm Tree Club - Malindi
Residence Karibuni - Malindi
Aquarius Beach Resort - Watamu
Mwembe Resort - Malindi
Coral Key Beach Resort - Malindi
Tamani Jua Residence - Malindi
Bush Baby Resort - Malindi
We are after a good beach, horseriding, good food/accomodation and bungalows rather than hotel structures. The wedding facilities must also be good of course!
We have never been to Kenya before and any advice would be greatly appreciated. We are also going to tag a Safari onto the end and we are looking at a 4 night 5 day in Tsavo East/West and Amboseli, is this long enough?
Thanks for your help
Nikola

Looks like you have the same selection as I have. I've been to the areas several times but don't know any of the hotels on offer. I am staying in Mombassa in April and intend to check them out (although I wasn't intending to check the wedding facilities!!!) If I know where to find you I'll give you an opinion when I get back.

Hi,

Although I can't help you now, we are booked to stay at the Mwembe Resort Malindi in Mid-August. If you drop me a line towards the end of August, I'll tell you about our experiences.

John.

Thanks Jean,

I would love to hear how you get on in August. We ended up booking to stay at the Royal Reserve Beach and Safari Club just north of Mombasa and we are off there at the end of January. We have already booked to go on the Dhow Dinner Cruise as apparently it is very popular and very good. We have booked it for our wedding night.
Have a fantastic trip and I look forward to hearing from you at the end of August

Hi Jean,

I was just trolling the web looking for information about Kenya in general, Malindi in particular, and the Mwembe Resort to be even more specific. We are considering going to Kenya for our honeymoon, and may be able to get a time share at the resort. If you have any thoughts about Kenya, Malindi, the resort, or anything else you think is helpful, I would appreciate it. Many thanks.

Ryan Barry

My husband and I are planning a trip to Kenya in May 2005, staying at an RCI resort and TRYING to book safaris as well. Lonely Planet talks about a hot air balloon trip that sounds extraordinary. Does anyone have any suggestions or experience with one of these? Also, please advise on 3 or 4 -dat land safaris.

Dear All, Kenya is a safe country where the people love and treat their guests well. Security in Kenya is well organised. You only need to take normal precautions when travelling anywhere\ i.e. don't show your money in public, avoid dark alleys and travelling at night unless accompanied.

I will be travelling to Nairobi in September 2005 and at the end of our Safari trip I was considering staying 1 week at the Mwembe Resort near Malindi. I was wondering if you could tell me if this is a top notch resort or just average? I also was wondering if you have a suggestion for how to travel from Nairobi (which is where our Safari trip will end) to Malindi? I appreciate any information you might provide. Thank you. Cheers, Wendy

Posted by kwalel on Mar-20-05 at 07:58 AM (GMT)

yes mwembe is a top notch (*****) star hotel.
There are several ways of travelling to malindi. you
may opt to take a bus or a train to Mombasa then
malindi, take a flight or hire a car to travel. the
latter is the better opttion because you might travel
at your own pace and savour what nature generously
complimented Kenya with.
If you choose to hire a car, then please contact me.

Thanks in advance,

Hi there,

I really must advise you not to hire a car in Kenya, it is very dangerous and not recommended at all. The roads are horrendous and you really need to be experienced in Kenyan driving to be brave enough to do it. The best and safest way to get from Nairobi to Malindi is to fly, you can fly direct to Malindi or fly to Mombasa and get your resort to arrange transport to collect you from the airport. As you can see from the beginning of this thread I was after info for our trip in Feb 04 when we were getting married in Mombasa, we loved it so much we returned in Feb 05 to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. We will be going again next year if I get my own way!!!

Thank you for your reply. I rather thought flying might be the best method of transport? I was not sure if there were regular flights into Malindi and the Kenya Airways site is not clear.

This will be my first time to Kenya...as long time dream. It is nice to hear you enjoyed it so much and that you have been back.

All the Best...and thanks again for the information. Cheers morgan2003

Dont know if this will help but:

* MALINDI: Airlines operating internal scheduled flights to/from Malindi include:
- AirKenya Aviation (to/from Mombasa, Nairobi).
- Kenya Airways (to/from Mombasa, Nairobi).
- Equator Airlines (to/from Lamu).

You could have a look and see if you can find any more info on the web, Opodo might be a good site to start with if you have no luck with Kenya Airways.

You will love Kenya, everything about it is magical, the people, the scenery, the weather and of course the culture. Have a great trip
