| Description: |
The Kisite Marine Park and Mpunguti Marine Reserve. Around it is the best Park in Kenya with little damage/ bleaching to it's coral due. It drops off from 50 to 1200 feet, guaranteeing a constant flow of fresh/cool water. The island is located off Kenya's South Coast, close to the Tanzania border. The nearest airstrip is a 15 minutes flight from Mombasa in Funzi. By road it takes 2 hrs from Mombasa before embarking on a 20-minute boat-ride. The actual USD costing is $16 million. The property comprises of 4 islands (the largest being 30 acres; second largest being 15 acres; third largest being 9 acres and the smallest being 2 acres). The first three islands have KWS (Kenya Wildlife Services) approval for hospitality use (meaning one can build hotels, resorts, villas etc). The remaining 2 acre island is ideal for scuba diving and snorkeling). The main advantage of these islands is that they have never been inhabited (except by marine and wildlife). The current price of US$16 million is heavily discounted. To put this in perspective, Shela Islands which are found in Lamu, and which are owned by three families (Peugeot family, Carolina family and Kofi Annan's family), where they have put up villas and cottages, is currently valued at US$120 Million. When fully developed and operational, Kisite Islands will most likely fetch much more than Shela Islands. |
