Description
Hortensia Lodge is located in the upmarket residential area of Eastcliff, in the heart of town only 400 metres from the cliff-top path which runs along the Walker Bay coastline famous for the best land based whale watching in the world.
The Lodge is within walking distance of the Hermanus waterfront featuring shops, boutiques, restaurants and coffe/cocktail bars. Beaches, estuary, Fernkloof Nature Reserve, mountain trails and vineyards , endless white sand beaches and the estuary of the Klein River are but 5 minutes by car. The public grounds of Hortensia Lodge are an oasis in the village. Blooming shrubs and manicured lawns with HORTENSIAS (hydrangea hortensis) blooming in profusion are a pure delight to the senses. Indigenous shrubs attract a variety of birds. Safe off-road parking is available on the property. Smoking is permitted outdoors and children over 14 are welcome. Exceptions are made if younger children are able to swim as the pool is not fenced. The public rooms are spacious and well appointed. All bedrooms have access to the garden. The 2 large garden rooms (30 sqm) one with a queen the other with twin beds offer the possibility for a third person on a sleeper couch. Hermanus is the capital of the Whale Coast situated 115 km from Cape Town International Airport. Best months to visit are December to April when fine weather draws visitors to the estuary and endless white beaches. The small but famous Fernkloof Nature Reserve in our village has an unbelievable rich flora with more than 1500 species on just 15 square kilometers. The reserve offers 60 km of hiking paths with picture book views of mountains and ocean scenery. - Many vineyards, all within 10 km from the centre of Hermanus offer wine tasting and restaurant facilities
How To Find Us
Coming from Cape Town
Enter Hermanus on the R43. Travel through the central business district where the R43 takes a ninety degree turn to the left. You come to a 4 way stop. Go across this 4 way stop and take the next road (Stemmet) to the left followed by first right into Mitchell Street. First property on the right hand side is Number 66. You have arrived at Hortensia Lodge.
From Stanford
Enter Hermanus on the R43. Travel toward the centre for about 5 km and turn right at the Shell filling station, then immediately left again into Mitchell Street. Number 66 is approx. 400 metres up on the left hand side.
