Description
Location: But nowhere on the whole East African coast–perhaps nowhere in Africa – is the sand softer, the breeze steadier, or the water sweeter than at Kiwayu Safari Village. This is where the early Arab traders put ashore to collect water from the area’s natural springs, and where the Pride sends its modern adventurers for a refreshing end to their African journey. Kiwayu is located on the Kenya mainland in the most remote Dodori National Reserve some 30 miles north of Lamu Island, in a breathtakingly beautiful bay opposite Kiwayu Island. A 90-minute flight from Nairobi will land you on Kiwayu’s airstrip. Kiwayu prides itself on being in tune with its pristine surroundings, and most of its big game fishing is restricted to tag-and-release sustainability
Accommodation: The 18 simple but spacious and beautifully decorated local-style cottages (bandas) spread out along the shoreline. Your home is a banda built in the local Bajuni tradition with palm thatched roof and matting floor with:
Different sitting areas and tables - with many options for that all-important siesta. Super king-size bed surrounded by a turquoise mosquito net Comfortable dressing rooms Bathrooms with hot showers and flush toilets Shady and hammock-strung verandah offering privacy and a panoramic view over the bay.
These bandas are designed to blend into the dunes - no concrete, no nails, nothing to jar the senses.
Facilities: Kiwayu boasts everything one could possibly desire of the perfect beach holiday for it offers a coastal retreat of the utmost simplicity and sophistication:
Dining room built in the local Bajuni tradition with palm-thatched roofs and woven matting floors, all open-sided to the beach and offers the finest seafood and Italian-inspired cuisine
Bar; you have a chance to meet the few other Kiwayu guests and enjoy a nice conversation with people from all over the world. The bar is stocked to international standards
